• Lantegi Batuak is a non-profit organisation whose aim is to promote and achieve social integration and employment for people with disabilities.

Our Origins

We go back to 1964 with the first experiences of sheltered work under the auspices of Gorabide (a Biscayan association working on behalf of people with mental disabilities). A group of parents and friends of people with mental disabilities set up the association to raise public awareness of the social and family aspects of this problem, and opened the first care centres.

Since 1983

In 1983 we adopted the commercial title Lantegi Batuak, in order to centralise management and coordinate the network of workshops springing up around Biscay since the end of the 60s. Now we could give our workshops a business structure which would offer people with mental disabilities the opportunity to train and find an occupation and a job.

Later, in 1987, we opened Lantegi Batuak’s doors to people with physical and sensorial disabilities, and in 2001 we were joined by people with mental illnesses.

In January 1998 we were formally constituted as a Foundation and adopted a legal personality.

Today

We are the largest business initiative in the field of sheltered employment in Biscay. We currently generate labour opportunities for over 2,300 people with a mental, physical or sensorial disability or mental illness through our activities in the industrial or service sectors. Our 20 centres cover over 30,000m2, plus 9 service teams up and down the province.

Out of our total workforce, 63% have some mental disability; 21% have physical or sensorial disabilities, 4% suffer from some kind of mental illness and the other 12% are people without disabilities.

With our portfolio of over 1,000 public and private clients, we are present in sectors as diverse as direct marketing, gardening, automotive, electrical equipment, renewable energy, ancillary services, etc.
